Harper Elementary's 5 Points of Pride :

1st Point of Pride: John Hancock Student Signature Award

The Georgia Department of Education recognizes that cursive writing strengthens student confidence, connects learners to history, and supports essential cognitive development. This award celebrates schools that go above and beyond in teaching cursive writing which is a skill that builds fine motor strength, enhances literacy, and allows students to read and understand historical texts in their original form.

Harper Elementary School received the John Hancock Banner and Proficiency Ribbon in recognition for 90% of our students’ ability to write their names in cursive.The banner and ribbon are on display in the front of our school near the media center entrance.  

 

2nd Point of Pride: 2025-2026 National Beta School of Merit 

The National Beta School of Merit award recognizes schools with a strong commitment to academic excellence, service, and leadership. To receive this honor, a school must include members from all eligible grade levels in their Beta Club.

The Harper National Elementary Beta Club membership includes fourth and fifth grade students who have achieved “Merit” recognition for  their dedication and commitment to academic excellence.  A beautiful induction ceremony was held on April 25, 2026 , and an awesome new class of scholars were welcomed to the Harper Elementary Beta Club.

 

3rd Point of Pride: Hear Our Voices Literary Competition

Hear Our Voices Literary Competition celebrates student voice, creativity, and the power of expression throughout the district. Students share their talents through the following written categories: Dictated Narrative, Narrative, Essay, Poetry, as well as including Multimedia presentations, Speech, and Spoken Word.

Students based their submissions on the prompt: “What determines your success—your mindset, opportunity, or talent?”  We proudly applaud our fifth grade scholar, Micah Owens, for his third place recognition in the essay category of the competition.  

 

4th Point of Pride: Mathletes TargetQuest Competition

In February, the Mathletes TargetQuest was one of many dynamic math competitions facilitated by CCPS. First and second-grade students showcased their addition and subtraction fluency.

With speed and accuracy, scholars demonstrated their strong foundational skills and enthusiasm for mathematics. Soaring high from Harper Elementary School, Luka Luna Delatorre won 1st place and Emory Mitchel won 3rd place in the first grade division.

 

5th Point of Pride: City of Riverdale Black History Month Student Art Contest Winner

During Black History Month, a few of our students were hand selected to represent Harper Elementary in The City of Riverdale Black History Month Student Art Contest. Participants were challenged to explore the theme “What's more influential to you: History or Heritage?"

 
Our scholars had two weeks to conceptualize and execute their creative ideas. This opportunity gave students an opportunity to showcase their talent and highlight creativity through visual art. Zhyanae Shears was selected as the 1st place winner!
